The next time the round table convened, it was a slightly different group: Keltner, Krampf, Colaiuta, Porcaro and Marotta. You'll hear the radio on in the background...it seems to me someone or two asked for some sports game to stay on, so that's annoying. Who knew 20 years later I would be sharing these with the public?
In this portion of the 1984 round table with Keltner, Blaine, Colaiuta, Krampf, and Manne, more great studio stories. Shelly talks about working with Zappa, Keltner talks about the track "Sweet Dreams" by the Eurythmics. Hal talks about the beginnings of the disco hi-hat, they talk about being mistreated in the studio and much more.
In this first part of the 1984 L.A. Studio round table, the amazing drummers who convened at my apartment that day were Shelly Manne, Hal Blaine, Jim Keltner, Vinnie Colaiuta and Craig Krampf. Later that month we had part two at which Hal and Shelly couldn't make it, but Jeff Porcaro and Rick Marotta could. These conversations are priceless and being able to listen to them all these years later makes it an entirely different experience.
